Remarks on the 16th Century Lima Councils

After an ecclesiological prologue on synodality, the institute of the provincial councils in the 16th century is analyzed, with particular reference to the territory of the Spanish Monarchy. The triple jurisdiction that gravitated over the councils is addressed: pontifical, regal and archbishop’s. Some elements of the Third Council of Lima (1582/83) are commented: characters, legislative and catechetical production, to end the case of the conviction of women “tapadas” of Lima.
