Abstract

On May 24, 2018, the President of the Italian Episcopal Conference promulgated the General Decree approved by the lxii General Assembly of Italian Bishops, entitled Disposizioni per la tutela del diritto alla buona fama e alla riservatezza. The Decree is an update of the previous one promulgated on October 20, 1999, in order to allow the Catholic Church in Italy to continue to apply its own corpus of rules to protect natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data, as complete and complies with the new European Regulation n. 2016/679, directly applicable in the Member States of the European Union starting from May 25, 2018. The contribution illustrates the most relevant aspects of the General Decree in force today, in light of the clarifications provided by the National Office for juridical problems of the Italian Episcopal Conference.
