Abstract

The article deals with the issue of religious education in public schools in Europe. First the Author presents the policies of the Council of Europe which, considering that religions can educate when they are taught in a comparative perspective, have recommended a teaching about religions or about religious Ethics and Culture, sometimes influencing the individual national laws. Then he presents the analysis of the position taken by the Holy See on the subject of catholic education through the Church’s Teaching. The analysis shows the role played by the Holy See in protecting religious education in the European Organizations.
